Digital marketing is a constantly changing field. Whether you’ve been marketing your business online for years or you’re just getting started in the game, there’s always something more to do – one more step to take. It might simply be changing up your title tags or getting on a new social platform, or it could be something more expansive, like a full PPC campaign or even a website redesign.

Whatever it is, it could be that one step that puts you over the edge – that catapults your site to the first page of Google, wins you that big-dollar sale, or gets you that customer you’ve been vying for.

Do you want to up your digital marketing game and see success in 2015? Then try these tips on for size:

1. Change up your message

Not every platform is the same. On LinkedIn, you’re talking to professionals, colleagues and past customers. On Facebook, you’re addressing your grandma, your friends and your employees. On Twitter, you’re communicating with industry leaders and influences. Because each platform comes with a difference audience, you can’t just spit out a cookie-cutter update across all of them. If you really want your social efforts to have impact, they should be customized to the platform and audience you’re addressing.

2. Always provide value

Whether it’s on your blog, in an email, on your Facebook page or even on the phone, always make it a point to provide some sort of value to those you interact with. Give your readers, clients and potential customers something back – something that thanks them for their time and effort. Simply talking about your promotions or new products isn’t going to cut it; if you want people to enjoy doing business with you (and to do it time and time again), then you need to give them value each and every time you interact.

3. Stay in tune

Make sure you’re plugged into your industry – both physically and digitally. Go to conferences and conventions, and get a feel what others in your sector are up to. Put faces with names, and make connections that can help both your business and the businesses of others. You should also take time to optimize your Twitter, Facebook, Google + and Instagram feeds, making sure to follow any big influencers or important people in your industry. These will be the people who will share your content and put it in front of real, viable customers and clients.

4. Be consistent

You can’t create one blog post or sent out a few newsletters and expect the world to change. In digital marketing, consistency is crucial if you want to see success. You should be posting blogs multiple times a week, sending out regular emails, posting daily social updates and managing your PPC ads every day of the week. It’s only through regular, consistent work that you’ll see a true impact on your bottom line.

5. Own your niche

Don’t try to be everything to everyone. Carve out your own little niche in the world, and become the expert on it. Own it. If your business installs flooring, find a specialty area of that and really pour your resources into it. Maybe start a blog about wood flooring. You could answer common questions, showcase new products, talk about colors, materials and application methods, and much, much more. Soon enough, you’ll be the go-to place for wood floors!

6. Repurpose, repurpose

Not every company has a full marketing staff to work with, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have an effective campaign. Instead of creating new content or marketing collateral from scratch daily, simply repurpose it. Turn last week’s blog into a video for this week, or use that ebook for a new SlideShare. It will give you more content, and yet another way your users can digest it. It’s a win-win.

7. Supplement your efforts

It’s true: many digital marketing strategies are free. Social media, SEO, meta tags – they can all be done by hand, without the use of any specific software or programming. (You do, of course, need some marketing and SEO know-how.) But while these “free” efforts are certainly effective, there’s one sure-fire way to make them even more powerful: supplement them with paid advertising. Paid social advertising (Facebook, Instagram) and pay-per-click ads (Google, Bing) are great ways to double up your efforts, and make absolutely sure your marketing campaign has the impact you’re looking for.
