In this day and age, most business owners know that SEO is important to their company’s success. Despite this, however, many still aren’t willing to pay money to have a pro manage their SEO efforts. They think it’s too expensive, it’s not worth the investment and, more importantly, that they can handle it just fine all on their own.
The truth of the matter is: SEO is no simple task. It’s a long, time-consuming process that requires almost constant work. It’s not something you can do just once a leave alone; you have to work at it each and every day if you want to see success.
Don’t DIY Your Site’s SEO
Most business owners – or even the team members they assign to SEO efforts – just don’t have the time, resources or knowledge necessary to really gain traction. Sure they may get a few more clicks a month as a result, but they won’t be nearly as monumental as they would if a professional had been hired. And isn’t that the whole point?
If you’re considering DIYing your SEO and inbound marketing efforts, I encourage you to think again. By handling your company’s SEO yourself, you open yourself up to these potential problems:
1. It won’t be as effective.
First and foremost, your SEO efforts simply won’t be as effective if you handle them on your own. An SEO firm or professional knows the latest strategies and methodologies needed to achieve SEO success, and they’ll be able to implement them seamlessly at your company. By DIYing it, you’re robbing yourself of all this expertise and knowledge, and that means you won’t see the results you want in the end.
2. It will cost more.
SEO pros have proven systems and processes for improving a site’s visibility, getting more traffic and improving conversions. They know exactly what steps to take to get your site to where it needs to be, and they can start working almost immediately. If you handle SEO in house, you don’t have built-in systems and processes like these. Instead, you’ll be flying by the seat of your pants, figuring out what works, what doesn’t work and what changes you need to make in the process. Because of this, it can end up costing you a lot more in the end. Just think of all the time, effort and resources that could be wasted!
3. It will take longer.
Similarly, not having a proven process to follow means it will take significantly longer to see results. With a pro, you’d likely see noticeable change in just a few weeks or months. If you DIY it, it could take years – and do you really have the time to wait around for that?
4. You’ll lose out on customers and sales.
While you’re trying to figure out the best tactics and strategies for improving your SEO, your competitors are hiring a pro to handle it. They’re getting ahead in search results and, most importantly, they’re taking valuable customer leads, sales and revenue right out of your pocket. If you want to stay competitive and get those potential sales today, hiring a pro is a downright necessity.
Are you looking improve your site’s SEO, but you don’t want to pay the costs to hire a pro? Then take this SEO quiz. If you can pass it on your own (no cheating!), then there’s a chance you may be able to manage your SEO efforts in-house.
